Frequently Asked Questions About Air Conditioners

Call Us
  • What does the SEER rating mean for my system?

SEER (or Seasonal Efficiency Energy Ratio) measures the efficiency of your heating or cooling equipment. The SEER directly relates to the amount of cooling that is delivered by your system per every dollar spent on electricity. Ratings can range from 13 - 21, but the higher the rating, the more efficient your unit will be.

  • What is the benefit to regular or preventive maintenance for my heating and cooling systems?

Heat pumps and air conditioners need maintenance at least twice a year. Gas-fired units can be serviced once per year, since the equipment operates at a greater efficiency. Thorough inspections of equipment can prevent large (and more costly) issues down the road.

  • What are the advantages of installing a programmable thermostat?

Thermostats that use mercury are less efficient and hard to control. Using a programmable thermostat is a more reliable option for temperature control throughout the day. Since they are electric, you can even set climate control while you are gone. This saves energy, which saves money!

  • What is the typical life expectancy of my unit?

Life expectancy for any HVAC unit depends on the brand, type and also how often regular maintenance is performed. By having yearly inspections done, you can greatly increase the life of your unit.

  • What will my warranty cover?

A standard factory warranty covers any broken parts during the life of the warranty. The warranty certificate is included with your homeowner information packet that comes with your unit. The warranty will not, however, cover labor for necessary repairs. It is always best to hire a professional to install any parts that need to be replaced to ensure the unit is working properly and to extend the life of your air conditioning.
